TERMS OF SERVICE

These are the rules for using Unrealwatch, written plainly and honestly for a small, early-alpha game made by one person.

Effective May 29, 2026 · Last updated May 29, 2026

1At a glance

  • Unrealwatch is in early alpha. Things can break, change, or disappear with little notice. We are honest about that up front.
  • The game is free. There are no real-money purchases yet. In-game currencies are earned through play, not bought.
  • Please be civil. Cheating, harassment, and exploits will get you banned at our discretion.
  • These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes go to Dutch courts, without affecting any mandatory consumer rights you have in your own country.
  • We can update or force-update the launcher and the game client at any time.

This summary is not a substitute for the full terms below. It is just a quick read so you know what you're agreeing to before you dive in.

2Who these terms are with

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) form a binding agreement between you and Unrealwatch, an independent project run by a single developer based in the Netherlands (“Unrealwatch,” “we,” “us,” “our”).

By creating an account, downloading the launcher, installing the game client, or otherwise using any part of the platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

3Eligibility

To use Unrealwatch you must:

  • Be at least 16 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country if that age is higher. We do not currently run an age-verification gate, so we rely on you being honest about this.
  • Have the legal capacity to enter a binding contract where you live.
  • Not be barred from using the service under applicable law, or under a prior decision we have already communicated to you (for example, a previous account ban).

We may refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts at our discretion for any of the above reasons.

4Your account

You agree that:

  • The email address you register with is accurate, current, and one you actually control.
  • Your password meets the complexity requirements shown to you at registration, which may change over time.
  • Your display name follows our format rules (2-24 characters, using only letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens, underscores, and dots). The four-digit tag suffix is generated automatically and is not something you choose.
  • You will not share, sell, gift, rent, or transfer your account or its credentials.
  • You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.

You can change your display name once every 30 days. We keep a history of your display names for moderation purposes. We may reclaim or rename names that impersonate other accounts, infringe trademarks, or break the conduct rules below.

5Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Cheat, exploit bugs for unfair advantage, or use unauthorized third-party software (including aimbots, wallhacks, automation tools, scripts, or modified clients).
  • Harass, threaten, defame, or stalk any person.
  • Use slurs or hate speech, or post sexually explicit, violent, or unlawful content in chat, profile fields, or anywhere else on the platform.
  • Spam, advertise, or solicit other players.
  • Probe, scan, or attempt to break into our infrastructure, or interfere with our matchmaking, queue, or game-server pools.
  • Boost, smurf, throw matches, or otherwise manipulate competitive rank or the leaderboards.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or redistribute the game client, the launcher, or any other part of the software, except where this restriction cannot be enforced under mandatory law.
  • Impersonate Unrealwatch staff or any other person.
  • Use the platform in a way that breaks any law that applies to you.

6Moderation

We can take action against accounts that break these Terms or the conduct rules above. The actions we can take include:

  • Chat mute, either timed (up to one year per single action) or stacked.
  • In-match kick.
  • Forcing you to log out and ending your active session.
  • Blocking sign-in, which stops you logging in without deleting the account.
  • Shadow ban, which reduces your visibility.
  • Account ban, which is permanent unless we overturn it on appeal.
  • Network block, which blocks a network address or range.

We do not currently run an in-game player-report system. Moderation actions are taken at our discretion, based on automated signals, reports made through our Discord, and admin review. Where it is reasonable to do so, we include a reason with each action, and you can appeal by getting in touch.

7Currencies and purchases

Unrealwatch does not sell anything for real money right now. The in-game currencies, Unrealwatch Coins and Competitive Coins, are earned through play, granted for taking part in events, or awarded by staff. They have no real-world monetary value, cannot be exchanged or refunded, and are not your property. They are a non-transferable license to use them inside the platform.

We may introduce paid items, currency packs, or subscriptions in the future. If we do, we will publish updated Terms and set out pricing, the refund policy, and your consumer-protection rights at least 30 days before any purchase option goes live.

8Game-client license

As long as you keep to these Terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable, royalty-free license to download, install, and use the Unrealwatch launcher and game client on hardware you own or control, purely for personal, non-commercial gameplay. All other rights are reserved.

You may not redistribute, mirror, repackage, or resell the client or launcher. You may not modify them or create derivative works of them, except where mandatory law expressly allows it. The license ends automatically if you break these Terms.

The launcher and game-client binaries, their bundled assets, and their source code remain owned by us or our licensors. We acknowledge that Unreal Engine 5.8 is licensed to us by Epic Games, Inc., and that your use of the client is also subject to any end-user terms that apply to redistributed Unreal Engine components.

9Streaming and recording

You are very welcome to stream, record, and publish video of your Unrealwatch gameplay on platforms like Twitch, YouTube, Kick, Medal, and Streamable, whether for fun or for income. We just ask two things: do not present yourself as endorsed or sponsored by Unrealwatch without our written permission, and make sure your stream itself does not break the conduct rules in section 5.

10Your content

When you submit content to the platform, such as chat messages, your display name, and your profile choices, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, and display that content as needed to run the platform.

You keep ownership of your content. You are responsible for what you post. We may remove or moderate content that breaks these Terms.

11Service status and changes

  • Unrealwatch is in early alpha. Features may be added, changed, broken, removed, or disabled without notice.
  • We cannot promise any uptime, latency, or availability. The platform runs on a single host with no service-level guarantee.
  • We may enter maintenance mode, restrict access, or require the launcher and game client to update at any time. When a minimum client version is set, older clients are blocked from connecting until they update.
  • We may change matchmaking, ranking, currency, or progression rules without giving you individual notice first.
  • Significant changes will be announced on our Discord server.

12No warranties

The platform is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted operation. We do not promise that the game will be free of bugs, exploits, downtime, or data loss. Nothing in this section affects any mandatory consumer-protection warranties that apply to you under the law of your country of residence.

13Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent Dutch law allows:

  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, loss of progression, loss of in-game currency, loss of cosmetics, loss of data, or loss of goodwill.
  • Our total combined liability arising out of or connected to these Terms or your use of the platform will not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the event that caused the claim. Since the platform is currently free, that amount is zero.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under Dutch consumer-protection law, including liability for gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

14Termination

You can leave at any time by deleting your account from account settings. Deletion has a 30-day grace period during which you can change your mind. After the grace period, deletion is final and most of your data is removed (see the Privacy Policy for the specifics).

We can terminate or suspend your access at any time, with or without prior notice, for any violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion. When your access ends, your license to use the launcher and client ends too, and we may delete your in-game progress, cosmetics, and currencies without compensation.

15Indemnity

To the extent Dutch consumer-protection law allows, you agree to compensate us for direct damage we suffer (or for third-party claims brought against us) caused by your wilful breach of these Terms or by grossly negligent misuse of the platform. This clause does not extend to ordinary breach by a consumer, and it does not override the mandatory consumer protections you have under Dutch law, including the rules on proportional liability and on unfair contract terms.

16Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any dispute arising out of or connected to these Terms falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent court in the Netherlands, without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your country of residence.

17Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Significant changes, meaning changes that meaningfully affect your rights or obligations, will be announced on our Discord server and sent to the email address registered to your account at least 30 days before they take effect.

If you do not accept a significant change, you can delete your account during that 30-day notice window without penalty, and we will treat the deletion as cancelling the contract under the prior Terms. Continuing to use the platform after a change takes effect means you accept it.
